Alternator Output and Electric Vests
on: October 21, 2021, 02:46:01 AM
As the weather starts to get cooler, I was crunching the numbers in the owner's manual to make sure I have enough headroom for a 45W electric vest. I see:

Alternator Output at 5k RPM: 476W
Load w/high beams, hazards, etc.: 160W
Load for engine management, etc: ???
    Vest: 45W

Does anyone have a thumbrule for what it takes to keep the ECU happy and battery charging while I stay warm? Is 271W enough? My little XT-250 only has 190W (total) on tap and has no problem, but it's a much simpler machine. Thanks!
